The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
