The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.
Australia's selection chief the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's historic rivalry.
Speculation had been growing that Cummins might be unavailable due to a ongoing back issue that remained unresolved.
Previous updates from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest kicking off on November 21 in the WACA.
He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and was "optimistic" about the prospects of taking part.
"We're aware that the clock is ticking and various factors involved, aside from the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.
"It's positive. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a significant role. Ideally from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll reassess."
Past Concerns
The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.
Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with recurrences in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 leading to absences from three Australian summers in a limited period.
He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
The selector indicated that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the initial match.
Alternative Arrangements
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.
The talented all-rounder was recently pulled out from the national team for their one-day international series against the Asian giants as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.
Bailey described it as a "slight concern and mentioned that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."
"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to be available for the opening match as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.
"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs anyway. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for a short period, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
